From Mauritius to Perth

We are one team of passionate people on a journey to bring to Perth a culinary, cultural and human experience of Mauritius, our home. Our dedication to the culinary arts and the craft of hospitality resonates through our food and restaurant ambience. From traditional food to "Sega Tipik", embark with us on this wonderful journey of sharing a little piece of our home which Mark Twain referred to as the "blueprint of heaven".

La Bouffe ~ A Taste of Heaven

Selven Subban

Founder & Executive Chef

Born in the coastal village of Mahebourg, Mauritius, Selven started his culinary journey at the early age of 15 helping his mum in her food stall. From there he moved on with working as a trainee waiter while attending the Hotel School of Mauritius, Star Chef Training.

In 2002, he obtained his first job as a Chef apprentice in a 5-star luxury hotel, The Dinarobin, where he had his first exposure to fine dining. In his own words, “my university”. From 2006 he embarked on an international trip around San Francisco, Mexico, Canada and Alaska as a Commis Chef on The Princess Cruise, giving him a unique and diverse perspective of the hospitality and culinary world.

In 2008, he finally moved to Australia, working in prestigious hotels and restaurants, first in Sydney then made nest in Perth where he realised the only way to share his vision of food from his motherland (Mauritius) was to open his own restaurant.

In 2014 he opened his first little Mauritian café on King Street (King Street Cafe) as a pioneer of Mauritian cuisine in Perth which after long years of work and obstacles, moved to Subiaco to become La Bouffe, a unique culinary and cultural experience of Mauritius; “A Taste of Heaven”.
